Practices:
Joanne Harrison Clough, PC is trained in collaborative law and can offer clients the option of resolving their family law issues through the collaborative law process. Families in central Pennsylvania faced with divorce have an alternative to the all too frequent and nasty protracted divorce, custody, and support litigation. In fact, divorce doesn’t have to be a battle, and couples can elect to change the way they divorce. A husband and wife can avoid court and agree to participate in the collaborative law process where they freely and honestly exchange all relevant information, meet with each other and their respective collaborative law attorneys in a series of four-party meetings to work together to reach a divorce solution that benefits both parties. The end of a marital relationship is difficult, and unfortunately, litigation can add to the pain and heighten the conflict.

Collaborative law offers families the option of selecting a non-adversarial method of divorce resolution where the parties, not the courts, maintain control of the process and the outcome. The parties pledge to work together, without going to court or threatening to go to court, until they reach an agreement on all of their issues that are acceptable to both spouses. Collaborative law was created as an alternative dispute resolution over twenty years ago by a frustrated divorce lawyer / mediator who had witnessed several decades of the damage litigation can inflict on families already under stress. The goal is to develop an environment where the parties can transition their relationship to face and resolve their problems in a constructive manner.
Collaborative law has been available in central Pennsylvania for the past six years. Joanne Harrison Clough is one of more than 35 attorneys trained to practice collaborative law in central Pennsylvania.
